READING IS A HIT WITH US!
This year is the second year that I will be implementing the "Reading is a Hit with Us!" program. This reading program is meant to be an incentive for students to not only spend time reading in school, but also to be a voracious reader outside of the classroom.
Here is how the setup goes:
Here is how the setup goes:
- Our classroom features a bulletin board that features a cut out of a baseball helmet with your student's name. Under the helmet is a pushpin with a hook/ring on it.
- Every time your student reads a book at home, they will grab a "reading is a hit summary" from the classroom. The summary will prompt students to write a diatribe that references the characters, plot, setting, and personal reaction to the book.
- Upon submitting the summary, if it meets the requirements of the assignment, I will put both the accepted summary and a baseball ticket on their desk the following morning.
- The student will then fill out the ticket with the title of the book, and the author, and will place the ticket back on my desk.
- The ticket will then be posted on our "Reading is a Hit with Us!" bulletin board under your child's helmet, attached to the ring.
- The child with the most baseball tickets at the end of the school year will receive a TROPHY! This does not mean your student will come home with a certificate, they will actually have a large trophy that has their name engraved onto it, with "5th GRADE READING CHAMPION" on the base!
